Important Title One Meeting Tuesday, May 15

This Tuesday, May 15th, there will be a parent meeting at Twinbrook regarding the Title One school choice option.

Please plan to attend this very important meeting regarding an opportunity your child may have for next year.  We have discussed this at previous PTA General Membership Meetings and could not provide further information to some questions that were asked. The Federal Title I School Choice Option is offered to students enrolled in a Title I school that does not meet specific standards, known as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) on Maryland School Assessments (MSA) for two or more consecutive years. The MSA is an annual test in reading and mathematics. Twinbrook DID NOT achieve AYP on the 2011 MSAs. If Twinbrook does not achieve AYP for the second year in 2012, your child will have the option of transferring to designated schools in the Montgomery County Public School System.

Although MSA results will not be released until this summer, there is a meeting being held this Tuesday evening to explain this program to parents. PLEASE come to get more information. If Twinbrook becomes apart of this school choice option, we will not find out until mid to late summer and it may be hard to get more information that late.

Earth Day Update

Saturday, April 28, 9:30am- 12 noon (new time)

Please join the Twinbrook ES PTA on Saturday, April 28 to clean up the grounds of Twinbrook Elementary School. WE NEED YOU! We can’t do this project without your time and help. Come for the whole morning, or just for one hour. We need volunteers to weed flower beds, to spread mulch, and to bring tools, snacks, and supplies. Come ready to work!

  • Come to the check-in station in the all-purpose room to find out where to go.
  • Bring your used cell phones for recycling.
  • Light refreshments will be provided, but bring your own reusable water bottles. Help the environment by cutting down on plastic water bottles.
  • Bring your kids and put them to work! Children are welcome to play at the playground, but parents will be responsible for their children.

Can you help? Contact Dawn Corbett (240-421-7532, corbett.dawn@gmail.com) or Stephanie Diaz (301-231-7489, sharshdiaz@gmail.com). Below are the specific ways you can help:

  • Work on Saturday, April 28.
  • Help coordinate volunteers at check-in or at different areas of the school grounds.
  • Help get mulch from Montgomery County and help transport it around the grounds.
  • Help set up refreshments.
  • Bring paper lawn bags.
  • Donate $ to the PTA.
  • Donate food or drinks. (Please bring breakfast or snack foods: bagels, fruit, juice, granola bars, etc. We also need Igloo water coolers and paper cups.)
  • Bring garden tools from home (wheelbarrows, shovels, gloves) to share. Make sure to label them and take them home at the end of the day.
  • Help with playground supervision.
  • Have other ideas? Please let us know!
