Advocate for Twinbrook! New Date: March 6

Dear Twinbrook PTA Parents:

Here’s info about some important upcoming events that need lots of Twinbrook families to make a difference — it’s about advocating for school construction funds at the county and state level.  Twinbrook’s modernization was recently delayed another year (to be finished in 2022).  The county PTA umbrella organization, MCCPTA, is providing a free bus on March 6 for parents and students to go to Annapolis to advocate for an extra $700M in school construction funding for the county.  This might move Twinbrook’s modernization date earlier.  We ask you to attend one or both events to show support for Twinbrook — both the school and the neighborhood would benefit from a modernization project at the school.  Colleen Reed, PTA Treasurer, and Karl Reis, MCCPTA delegate from Twinbrook, are both planning to attend.

Will your children be at a school in MCPS in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020?

This is it, folks!

The County Council and the State of MD are about to allocate and approve money for MCPS for FY 2015-2020 for school maintenance and construction (Capital Improvement Projects). We need your support to make sure that MCPS gets this funding!

Make sure that the State of Maryland gives MoCo an extra $700 million for school construction. DRIVE OR GET ON THE FREE BUS to go to Annapolis for a few hours to show legislators that we really want this money! Last year 1,000 people came from Baltimore City and they got extra funding for school construction.

— Since 2000, our enrollment has increased by 14,000 students — that’s more than the growth of Anne Arundel, Howard, Frederick and Baltimore counties COMBINED.

— The past enrollment increase plus the expected increase in the next six years is larger than the entire enrollment of each of the 14 smallest school districts in Maryland. It’s as if we have to build several of those entire school systems while also upgrading the rest of our facilities.

— Nearly 50% of the county’s 202 schools are projected to exceed capacity by the 2018-19 school year.
